Our Work
iPhotometer Project
STC developed a simplified sun photometer that is able to retrieve cloud
aerosol information using a photograph from an cell phone. STC received a patent for this device in 2015. More
Clouds and Solar Energy
STC has developed a cloud data base that can be used to determine the
probability of a nadir viewing satellite the ground or the top of a
cloud. This cloud data base can be used to estimate the probability of
seeing the surface as a function of season and location. We are using a
8 year satellite derived climatology of clouds. More
Google Loon Balloon Project
This project, in coordination with the NASA Goddard Global Modeling and Analysis Office (GMAO), seeks to improve forecasting of the upper tropospheric winds by assimilating the Loon balloon winds. Loon balloons are super-pressure meaning that they float a long time at altitude and can be moved to slightly higher or lower altitudes. More
